FISH - Scripture reflections

Some thoughts about what I’ve read in my Quiet Time:

Genesis 1-2:  In Gen. 1 I am reminded that God had a plan for making the world and the plan continues.  He also ensured that the plan had follow through - when was the last time you thanked God for the consistency of the world?  The sun comes up each morning, gravity is constant, and dogs have puppies, cows have calves.  Would you like to live in a world where your cat had a litter of baby rattlesnakes?

Gen. 2:  God gives us the power of naming.  If we focus on naming the faults of our spouse, don’t expect much out of marriage.  If we name our spouse as gift from God, then we can experience one flesh connectedness, and lowering of the shame wall in marriage.

Psalm 1:  Send the roots of my life deep into wisdom, O Lord!

Matthew 1:1-17:  Pay attention to a guy named Eliud - verse 15.  Reading a long list of names means we can forget to personalize them.  Maybe Eliud main purpose in life was to be a great and godly Dad to Eleazar, who also embodied that pattern for Matthan, who embodied that pattern for Jacob, who embodied that pattern for Joseph, who embodied that pattern for Jesus.

What if the most important thing you will do in life is leave a legacy for your great great great grandchild to change the world?

Acts 1:1-11:  If God gives you a mission, wait on His power.  When we rush to our own time table, we miss His power!
