The Ticket
The ticket was handed to me across the table. An acquaintance said, “I’ve got to leave early. Keep on eye of these numbers. Let me know if I win anything.” The ticket was for a simple raffle the club did to raise money for its operations. Winning numbers entitled you to claim a few donated prizes. I didn’t buy a ticket because I really didn’t want anything they were giving away.
The time in program came for the winning ticket numbers to be selected. Ten winning numbers were drawn. The holders of the winning numbers would excitedly stand, hold the winning ticket over their head, and make their way to the prize table. I paid attention to the numbers for the sake of my friend, but as the last number was read, I knew this was a dollar investment that was worthless. What do you do with a ticket that has no use? You throw it away.
This is the season of giving away Passion Play tickets. We have several left for each performance. Please let me encourage you to do two things:
1. Think about people you know who need to take a step toward God. Maybe they were disillusioned by church years ago. Maybe they never knew anything about God. Maybe they are took steps away from God. Will you please put a ticket into their hand and tell them you would like to invite them to come to Passion Play with you?
2. Whatever tickets you have taken, use. Please make sure that no ticket is unused. I think of the waste of a ticket that could be used to help one person take a step toward Christ being wasted.
I promise you that every person you invite to the Passion Play will hear the story of Jesus – the whole story. They will have an opportunity to take their next step toward Jesus.
Putting a ticket into someone’s hand – it is simple, really. You might make sure nothing is wasted – not a ticket … or a life.
